Course Information
CPC31320 Certificate III in Wall and Floor Tiling provides a trade outcome in wall and floor tiling for residential and commercial construction work. The qualification includes common construction industry skills as well as specialist wall and floor tiling skills.
Learners develop the ability to prepare surfaces, handle materials, use tiling tools and equipment, install wall and floor tiles, repair tiling, install decorative and mosaic tiling, tile curved surfaces and apply waterproofing. It supports outcomes such as Tiler and Wall and Floor Tiler, and may provide a pathway to higher-level building and construction qualifications.
Completion of the general construction induction training program (Safe Work Australia model Code of Practice: Construction Work) is required before a person carries out construction work. The unit CPCWHS1001 Prepare to work safely in the construction industry supports this and is scheduled at the beginning of the course.
Aims and Learning Outcomes
The CPC31320 Certificate III in Wall and Floor Tiling prepares graduates to undertake trade-level tiling work in residential and commercial construction. It develops the knowledge and practical skills required to work safely and effectively and to carry out a range of wall and floor tiling tasks under workplace conditions - combining foundational construction skills with specialist tiling skills.
Through completion of the qualification, graduates are expected to demonstrate the ability to:
- Interpret basic plans, specifications and workplace instructions.
- Communicate effectively with supervisors, trainers, peers and team members.
- Apply WHS requirements, safe work method statements, JSA and hazard controls.
- Select, handle, store and use tiling materials safely and appropriately.
- Select, set up, use, clean and maintain tiling tools and equipment.
- Prepare substrates and surfaces for tiling to job requirements.
- Apply waterproofing processes required for wall and floor tiling work.
- Install floor tiles to specified set-out, alignment, finish and quality.
- Install wall tiles to specified set-out, alignment, finish and quality.
- Repair tiling defects and complete replacement or rectification work.
- Install decorative and mosaic tiling to specified patterns and finish.
- Tile curved surfaces using appropriate prep, cutting, fixing and finishing.
- Complete tasks in a simulated construction environment using industry processes.
- Apply quality checks, defect identification and corrective actions.
- Clean work areas, manage waste and follow environmental requirements.
- Work individually and as part of a team within construction routines.
Entry Requirements
To ensure an appropriate learning opportunity, candidates need to demonstrate the following:

Delivered through face-to-face classroom sessions, a simulated construction / tiling workshop, supervised practical activities and self-directed study.

Assessments
Units are assessed through varied methods including portfolios, reports, case studies, role-plays, workplace simulations, Q&A and practical assessments.

RPL & Credit Transfers
Contempo College provides Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) and Credit Transfer (CT) options to all prospective students. Applications must be submitted prior to enrolment completion, with supporting evidence demonstrating existing competencies or equivalent qualifications for relevant course units. No RPL or CT applications will be accepted after enrolment is finalised.
