Qualification Description

This qualification reflects the role of an individual working as a senior civil works designer or a para-professional designer, who supports professional engineers. They perform tasks that are broad, specialised, complex and technical and include strategic areas and initiating activities.

 

They are responsible for the design of complex projects to ensure the implementation of the client’s site requirements and are required to demonstrate self-directed application of theoretical and technical knowledge and initiate solutions to technical problems or management requirements.

 

This course covers broad civil construction managerial and project management competencies including managing project procurements and quality, civil works design processes, and traffic management systems

Aims and Learning Outcome

This course is aimed at:

 

  • Apply civil construction skills and knowledge in managing projects and design processes;
  • Develop practical and technical skills to work with civil engineers on the design and construction of infrastructure projects in supervisor roles
  • Create pathway opportunities for further qualifications and learning

 

     

    Entry Requirements

    To ensure an appropriate learning opportunity, candidates need to demonstrate the following.

    Prerequisite Qualification Requirement:

    Completion of RII50520 Diploma of Civil Construction Design is required for entry into RII60520 Advanced Diploma of Civil Construction Design course

    English (International Students):
    IELTS Academic 6.0 Or PTE Academic Test Score of minimum 50 in each component or others equivalent (e.g., TOEFL, ISLPR, CSWE, General English, EAP) English language test scores.

    Academic Level: Minimum Year 12 or equivalent high school certificate.

    Minimum Age: 18 years or over at the time of commencement.

    NoteStudents who do not meet the minimum English requirement for this course will need to package this course with an appropriate English Course before they can proceed into this course/qualification. An Internal English Test is available on request.

    Course Duration and Structure

    This course is delivered over a period of 1 year. The course duration is:

     

    • 52 Weeks of Course duration consisting of:
    • 40 Weeks of scheduled study/tuition (4 terms of 10 weeks each)
    • 12 Weeks of scheduled breaks/holidays including pre-training and completion activities (3 breaks of 2 weeks and 1 break of 6 weeks)

    Notes:

    1. A minimum of 20 contact hours per week of study/tuition have been scheduled by Contempo – to ensure students meet their student study Visa conditions
    2. The course duration may vary for students who have been granted Credit Transfer (CT) or Recognition of Prior learning (RPL) towards this course (e.g., students having completed any units in a previous

     

    Contempo students who complete RII50520 Diploma of Civil Construction Design (all 20 units) will need to complete additional units in this course. Their course duration will be reduced to (6-month) and the CoEs will be updated accordingly reflecting this.

    Delivery Mode

    This course is delivered face to face and is classroom-based. All units are delivered and assessed using a combination of the following instructor‐led methods; face to face in a classroom, in a simulated business environment and accessing learning and assessment resources via an approved E-Learning platform.

    Units are assessed through varied methods including portfolios, reports, case studies, role-plays, workplace simulations, Q&A and AutoCAD practical assessments.

    Language, Literacy and Numeracy Support

    For all students, strong Language, Literacy and Numeracy (LLN) skills are fundamental to supporting vocational learning, employability, and effective workplace communication, regardless of their course or training level. To ensure students receive the necessary support, all students undergo LLN testing during Orientation to determine their skill levels and identify any required support. Contempo College uses these assessments to tailor assistance, ensuring learners develop the essential LLN competencies needed for their course and future employment

    Recognition Prior Learning (RPL)/Credit Transfers

    Contempo College provides Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) and Credit Transfer (CT) options to all prospective students. Applications must be submitted prior to enrolment completion, with supporting evidence demonstrating existing competencies or equivalent qualifications for relevant course units. No RPL or CT applications will be accepted after enrolment is finalised.

    Academic Pathways

    Upon completing the RII60520 Advanced Diploma of Civil Construction Design, students may progress to:

    • Bachelor of Engineering (Civil) or related CRICOS-registered higher education programs offered by Public Universities or Private HE institutions in Australia with/without Credit Transfer options.

    Contempo College provides guidance on pathway options as part of student support.

    Note:

    • This qualification requires competency in all 12 units. Partial completion results in a Statement of Attainment for achieved units only.
