Qualification Description

This qualification reflects the role of community services workers involved in the delivery, management and coordination of person-centred services to individuals, groups, and communities.

At this level, workers have specialised skills in community services and work autonomously within their scope of practice under broad directions from senior management.

Workers support people to make change in their lives to improve personal and social wellbeing and may also have responsibility for the supervision of other workers and volunteers. They may also undertake case management and program coordination.

To achieve this qualification, the candidate must have completed at least 200 hours of work as detailed in the Assessment Requirements of units of competency.

Licensing, legislative, regulatory or certification considerations

The skills in this qualification must be applied in accordance with Commonwealth and State or Territory legislation, Australian standards and industry codes of practice.

No occupational licensing, certification or specific legislative requirements apply to this qualification at the time of publication

Aims and Learning Outcome

This course is aimed at:

 

  • Developing and enhancing existing knowledge and skills in direct service work and client support in residential and community settings
  • Developing skills to plan and deliver programs and services that meet various needs of individuals and families in a leadership capacity
  • Developing and implementing policies, procedures, and practice required for effective case management
  • Developing aspects of holistic approach to client needs

     

    Entry Requirements

    To ensure an appropriate learning opportunity, candidates need to demonstrate the following.

    English (International Students):
    IELTS 6.0 or higher with a minimum score of 5.5 in each band or equivalent (e.g., EAL/ESL, ISLPR, CSWE etc.) English language test scores

    Academic Level: Minimum Year 12 or equivalent high school certificate.

    Minimum Age: 18 years or over at the time of commencement.

    NoteStudents who do not meet the minimum English requirement for this course will need to package this course with an appropriate English Course before they can proceed into this course/qualification. An Internal English Test is available on request.

    Supported Job Roles

    Course Duration and Structure

    This course is delivered over a period of 1.5 years. The course duration is:

     

    • 78 Weeks of Course duration consisting of:
    • 60 Weeks of scheduled study/tuition (4 terms of 10 weeks each)
    • 18 Weeks of scheduled breaks/holidays including pre-training and completion activities (3 breaks of 2 weeks and 1 break of 6 weeks)

    Notes:

    1. A minimum of 20 contact hours per week of study/tuition have been scheduled by Contempo – to ensure students meet their student study Visa conditions
    2. The course duration may vary for students who have been granted credits or RPL towards this course (e.g., students having completed any units in a previous course/qualification).
    3. Additionally, students will be required to undertake activities such as homework, research, revision, and prepare for assessments and examinations relevant to each unit of competency in their own
    4. Where the scheduled classes have finished prior to a large holiday break (e.g., Christmas holidays), and students have completed all the course requirements (e.g., re-submissions, re-assessments, intervention etc.), Contempo College shall review and adjust (on a case-to-case basis) student CoEs end dates to ensure that the course does not exceed the time required to complete the course on the basis of full-time study. Similarly, the holiday period shall not be included in the course duration in determining the course start date prior to course commencement.

      Note: The Materials Fee covers all equipment and learning resources required for course delivery. Fees are subject to change and exclude Admin and Material fees, please contact the college for confirmation.

      Delivery Mode

      Face to Face, campus-based delivery, supported by industry work placement (200 hours). Modes include classroom based structured delivery and supervised and unsupervised self-study periods.

      Work Placements

      This course includes a work placement of 200 hours to be completed within the course duration.

      5. Evidence of Flu vaccination
      6. International COVID-19 Vaccination Certificate – Australian Government

      8. Medication Competency Certificate

      Assessments

      This course assessments include supervised formative and summative written assessments, exams/tests, case studies, projects, role play and project presentations in the classroom including assessments, roleplays, presentations, demonstration, and projects/assignments; combined assessment activities during work placement observed by workplace supervisor and assessor, research, report/paper/essay writing, preparation of presentations, analysing data and records, and unit specific tasks

      Language, Literacy and Numeracy Support

      For all students, strong Language, Literacy and Numeracy (LLN) skills are fundamental to supporting vocational learning, employability, and effective workplace communication, regardless of their course or training level. To ensure students receive the necessary support, all students undergo LLN testing during Orientation to determine their skill levels and identify any required support. Contempo College uses these assessments to tailor assistance, ensuring learners develop the essential LLN competencies needed for their course and future employment.

      Recognition Prior Learning (RPL)/Credit Transfers

      Contempo College provides Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) and Credit Transfer (CT) options to all prospective students. Applications must be submitted prior to enrolment completion, with supporting evidence demonstrating existing competencies or equivalent qualifications for relevant course units. No RPL or CT applications will be accepted after enrolment is finalised.

      Academic Pathways

      On successful completion of CHC52021 Diploma of Community Services, students can progress to:

       

      • BSB80120 Graduate Diploma of Management (Learning) at Contempo College

       

      Or may pursue further study opportunities by enrolling in a higher-level management course or seek to study with an Australian university in a related undergraduate degree level program, or another advanced qualification from the Community Services training package.

       

      Contempo’s staff will help students with information regarding their enrolment into a relevant university. Contempo’s does not have any arrangements in place with any university.
